Minimum requirements include High School Diploma, a valid North Carolina driver’s license, and North Carolina BLET certification required. Candidates must pass a stringent background check, a physical (including drug screening). College degree, prior law enforcement preferred but not required.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, ethical; team-oriented and dedicated to the principals of community-oriented policing. The officer will be required to perform any legal task assigned to the officer by the Police Chief and will be assigned to the patrol division of the department. New hires will be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period. The Town of Rutherfordton offers a comprehensive employment package including health care, retirement, 401K, opportunities for advanced education and training with associated pay for performance merit pay.

Starting salary depending on qualifications with a base salary starting at 35,000.
