Duke Energy has announced grants to 30 communities in North Carolina, and Rutherford Town Rising is one of the organizations receiving a $25,000 grant.  The funds will be used for their Angel Fund program, which was established in 2020 to provide critical assistance to Rutherfordton businesses that had been hit hard by the effects of COVID-19.

“Independent small businesses are the backbone of our downtown and are what makes our community so unique. These funds will help ensure their continued innovation and success as they continue to find ways to safely serve customers. We cannot be more delighted to be a recipient of the Duke Energy Hometown Revitalization Grant program and to invest these funds in a way with our businesses to see them grow and our downtown thrive. This matches our mission of working to provide our businesses with the support, programming and promotional assistance they need to succeed and the vision to help our town flourish,” said Leeanna Torvinen, executive director, Rutherford Town Rising.

“Congratulations to Rutherford Town Rising and thanks for all you do to help make Rutherford County such a wonderful place to live, work, and play!” -Duke Energy
