In addition to the general property tax, the Town levies a “Municipal Service District Tax”, (MSD) or commonly referred to as “the Main Street Tax”, on parcels located in the central business district. This tax contributes to the revitalization program to enhance the quality of downtown Rutherfordton by improving the physical, environmental, and business conditions in the downtown area. The municipal service tax rate for fiscal year 2013-2014 is 13 cents per $100 of value.
