The Town Manager Releases Coming Year Recommended Budget

The managers recommended budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2019 and ending June 30, 2020 was formally presented to the Rutherfordton Town Council on May 1, 2019 in accordance with North Carolina General Statues. However, in keeping with our desire to have an informed public, the managers recommended budget is available now for public review.

This budget illustrates a $0.54 tax rate, which is slightly above the revenue neutral rate of $0.53, and continues moving forward with existing projects and actively plans new projects while maintaining a solid financial position. Highlights of this year’s budget include funds to link the Purple Martin Greenway to Kiwanis Park, funding for a refresh of Crestview Park, housing investments, delivery of the new Squad 26 fire truck & continues to invest in our staff.  It is also important to note that this budget does not include the use of fund balance.

Rutherfordton Sewer customers will see no rate increase for the coming year.  The sewer fund will continue to fund capital improvements to the waste water treatment plant as well as investments into the repairs to the aging collections system.

The proposed budget is available for public review at this link  or in person at either Town Hall or the Norris Library. A public hearing will be held on June 5, 2019, however citizens are encouraged to review the proposed budget and submit comments to the Town Manager. The Town of Rutherfordton provides service forged at the highest standard from all departments and that quality standard is rooted in the financial stability of our budget process.
