Reservations may be made in person only (sorry - no phone reservations) at the Town Hall during normal business hours. Please note the shelter or any other grounds at the park may not be used for personal gain (i.e. a flea market, sales demonstration, fundraisers; any selling of products, services, or materials.)

Make reservation for Clubhouse

The Clubhouse is currently undergoing renovations and will not be available for rent until phase one is completed (estimated to be fall 2008).

Get Building Permit & Zoning Information

Prior to beginning any renovations or construction of signs, buildings, or homes, it is beneficial to review the local zoning codes and ordinances.  If you are planning to relocate or open a new business in Town, or are planning on renovating or constructing a house, please contact the Planning / Zoning Code Enforcement Officer at (828) 287-9508 for assistance.

Get a Privilege License

The Town of Rutherfordton requires a privilege license for persons, firms, and corporations who either have a physical presence in the Town or conduct business within the Town limits.  “Conducting business” means maintaining a business location within the Town, soliciting business within the Town, or picking up or delivering goods or services within the Town limits.  For most businesses, the fee is based on their gross receipts from the sales of goods or services.  There are certain types of businesses that have a fixed dollar fee and others that are exempt. For a list of these businesses and the current fee schedule, click here (.pdf).  Please note you may be subject to more than one fee, depending on your business and different types of goods and services provided by the business.

This license tax is due July 1st and interest begins on July 2nd at the rate of 5% per month.  You must apply for this license prior to conducting or maintaining a business. If your business is located within the Town limits, you are also required to complete the Fire Inspection and Zoning Application before the license is issued.

You may come by the Town Hall to pick up an application or click here (.doc) to access the application.   If you have any questions, call the Town Clerk at (828) 287-3520.

Get a copy of a Police report

A party involved in an incident that results in a written report may request a copy of the report by coming by Town Hall during normal business hours (8-5, Monday – Friday) and a copy will be provided without charge.  There is a fee that must be paid in advance if an involved party to the incident would like a copy mailed.  Click here for current fees. If a person not named as a party to the incident, or a company requests a copy of a report, there is a fee for in-person pickup or mailing. The fee will be waived for a company if they are named on the report as a victim, owner, etc. The Police Department does not fax copies of reports.

Find out information on Taxes?

Tax Rates and Collections: To minimize administrative expenses and foster efficiency, Town property taxes are collected by the Rutherford County Tax Department. The Tax Department can be reached at (828) 287-6180 or you can find more information at www.rutherfordcountync.gov.

The one property tax that is billed and collected by the Town is the "Municipal Service District Tax", (MSD) or commonly referred to as "the Main Street Tax." Bills are sent out in August, due in September, and interest begins accruing in January. The current municipal service tax rate is 26¢ per $100 of value.
