Mayor Sally Lesher has lived in Rutherfordton since 1980. She has served as an elected official since 1995, serving as a Rutherfordton Town Council member for two years before becoming Mayor. Mayor Lesher says, “since serving Rutherfordton I have seen so many positive improvements and so many people becoming involved in making this a wonderful place to live and work”. She is looking forward to implementing the new Master Plan to guide the Town into the future.

A native of Rutherford County, Jones is a graduate of R-S (Rutherfordton-Spindale) Central High School continuing his education with a degree from North Carolina State University. A resident of Rutherfordton since 1973, Councilmember Jones served 35 years in management of the textile industry in Rutherford County. Bobby Jones retired as a department head for the Textile Management Program at Spartanburg Technical College. Bob Jones has served on Town Council since 2001.

A resident of Rutherford County since 1976, Dancy has lived in Rutherfordton since 1978, and has been employed with CitiFinancial since 1973. Councilmember Dancy is married to Ginger and has one daughter, Suzanne, who is employed by KidSenses Children’s InterACTIVE Museum in Rutherfordton. Dancy is a member of Rutherfordton United Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club of Rutherfordton, Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity, and the American Cancer Society’s Rutherford County Relay for Life. Councilmember Dancy serves on the Boards of the United Way of Rutherford County, Rutherford Town Revitalization, and has served on the Rutherfordton Recreational Trust Fund. Dancy has also been recognized and awarded the Governor’s Volunteer of the Year. He was elected to Rutherfordton Town Council in 2001.

Councilmember Bare moved to Rutherfordton in 1992 and married David, a long time resident, in 1993. Bare is originally from Oklahoma City, OK and is a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a degree in Business Management. She worked in the insurance industry for 10 years before becoming a mother to Christian and Emily. Councilmember Bare has served on Town Council since 1998. Current council committees include, Rutherfordton Clubhouse Restoration Committee, Community Development Board and Streetscapes Committee. She is a member of the First United Methodist Church, Rutherfordton Garden Club, BB& T Rutherford County Board of Advisors, and Rutherford Women's League Co-president. Past Civic duties include Board of Directors of Rutherford Town Revitalization, Board of Directors Kidsenses Interactive Children's Museum and former member of Town Planning and Zoning Board.

A Rutherford County native and 1976 graduate of R-S Central High School, Councilmember Cobb began serving the Town of Rutherfordton in 1979 as a member of the Rutherfordton Fire Department. Cobb was appointed as Assistant Chief in 1996 where he served until retirement. He remained with the Fire Department until elected to Council in 2005. Cobb serves as a member of The Community Development Board and Recreation Committee. Councilmember Cobb has been an active member of The Rutherfordton Little League since 1988 and was elected as North Carolina’s District One Administrator for Little League Baseball, Inc. in 2006. He‘s married to Donna and they have three daughters, Suzanne, Brooke and Whitney and one very special granddaughter, Payton Elizabeth. Councilmember Cobb is employed as a Fire/Building Official with the Town of Forest City Building Inspectors Office.
